save New York film & photography
Your freedom to film in New York City is at risk! Please read below and act
today.
http://www.pictureny.org/petition/index.php
Whether or not you live in New York City, travel there to shoot, or just
believe in your First Amendment Rights, please read this announcement and
take action now! The New York City Mayor's Office is proposing new
regulations requiring permits and proof of insurance for any group of 2 or
more persons using a camera in a public area. These rules would require
anyone using a tripod or shooting in one location for more than 30 minutes
(including set-up and break down time) to obtain permits and show proof of
insurance of, at minimum, $1 million per occurrence. Read more about the
proposed new rules here:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/film/html/news/080107_proposed_permit_rules.shtml
It will only take a moment of your time -- Please act now to fight these
proposed regulations, which would place absurd restrictions on your freedom
to photograph New York City's public spaces -- affecting not only
professional photographers, but First Amendment rights of anyone with a
camera. With pressure from advocacy groups, the NYC Mayor's Office has
extended public commentary until Friday, August 3rd. Add your name to the
online petition opposing the proposed rules at Picture New York and join
with more than 15,000 like-minded indidivuals. The petition closes on
August 3rd, so please take a moment to sign on if you have not
done so already.
